Announcing Rx Box®: World's 1st DHPS on Removable Media
Mar - 2003

Press Release -- Superior, WI -- March 24, 2003

Medical clinicians have long sought a simple and efficient means of exploiting the benefits of interactive and audiovisual material when educating their patients. Having been researched for more then twenty years*, the potential for improving patient outcomes through use of these fundamental tools is well documented and, until now, impossible to apply in any clinically effective manner. iTherapies has developed a set of CD-ROMs that allows clinicians to easily prescribe and manage home programs of individualized, digital video content.

The traditional hands-on evaluation and treatment of patients does not change when using this system. A session only differs in the realm of home programming. Instead of introducing a stack of paper handouts to take home, patients are given Rx Box® Patient, the CD-ROM that delivers customized video programs. Clinicians transcribe numbers onto the CD-ROM jacket that correspond to prescribed exercises. These numbers are then entered into the Rx Box® application by the patient on their home or work computer. Updating the home program does not require a second CD-ROM, only that a new list of numbers be given to the patient.

Clinicians seeking a complementary digital product for the clinic can use Rx Box® Clinician. It contains the same video and textual content as Rx Box® Patient plus several tools for presenting this content during inservices, clinical references, or patient instruction. A Rx Box® Patient demonstration feature allows clinicians to accurately introduce the application to patients and staff. There are also printable exercise handouts available for patients without computer access.

Rx Box® applications recently concluded an extensive clinical testing period. Four outpatient physical therapy clinics located in the Midwest United States were selected as test sites. Results and feedback from clinicians and patients was universally positive. A common exit survey response from patients was: “it makes doing the exercises easy, I see exactly what to do.” Jim Rauzi, physical therapist and owner of The Center for Muscle & Joint Therapy, was representative of testing therapists in commenting: “I liked having a demo right on hand that allowed us to demonstrate (exercises and/or Rx Box) and issue the programs fast.”

iTherapies partnered with physical therapists Brian Mulligan and Rick Crowell to produce content for their inaugural CD-ROMs: Mulligan Home Exercise. These exercises originate from The Mulligan Concept, a collection of manual therapy assessment and treatment techniques developed by Mr. Mulligan. Mulligan techniques have been successfully practiced and taught to patients by manual clinicians worldwide for decades. This is the first offering of Mulligan Concept techniques on digital media and the only video presenting home exercises.

Rx Box® Patient and Rx Box® Clinician are available directly from iTherapies or can be purchased through OPTP, a distributor of conservative care and physical therapy products based in Minneapolis, MN. Rx Box® products are also available to Mulligan Concept course attendees through Northeast Seminars, the licensed provider of Mulligan-related courses in the United States. Rx Box® Clinic Pack is a well-priced starter kit that includes all tools necessary to initiate digital home programming in the clinic. Clinic Pack is available from all Rx Box® product vendors. Clinicians wishing to sample the Rx Box® application, or the content it delivers, can order Rx Box® Sample, a free and fully functional trial disc.
